Fused glass by design creates unique homemade fused glass jewelry and function items. To create her unique jewelry she uses system96 fused glass products. She uses a wide range of glass colors in transparent, opalescent, iridescent and dichroic glass. Her unique designs are created by layering hand-cut pieces of glass on a layer of base glass. Each layer that is added requires kiln firing and annealing of the glass piece which can take up to 12 hours for each firing. After the design is complete the piece is coldworked into the desired shape. Once the coldworking is complete the piece is fire polished to produce a smooth glossy finish. When producing her functional items she uses molds to slump the glass into the desired shape. Glass decals are sometimes used in my pieces. The glass decals are fired on for a permanent finish. Glass paints are also used. Jewelry bails are silver or gold plated and are attached with E6000 glue and allowed to set-up for 24 hours. Then the piece is further set, by heating the piece to 300 degrees in the oven for 20 minutes and allowed to cool naturally. This method makes a permanent bond between the glass and bail. Her jewelry is unique and eye catching for casual or evening wear. Her functional items are beautiful and durable for everyday use. They can also be used as a focal point in any room especially when light can shine through the item.
